Miss
Melinda Glen
Of all the career
opportunities in the world, none would give me the joy that teaching the Pre K
class here at Apple Dumpling Gang does. 2009 – 2010 is my 29th
year teaching in an early childhood classroom. I’ve taught in many age
groups, but always come back to the little people who are heading off to
kindergarten. They are funny, excited about learning, anxious to please
and befriend, and are ready to really understand things from the Bible:
kindness, generosity, grace, thankfulness, and love (to name a few of the
character building concepts we work to implement in these young lives).
My job is to partner with
the family to provide the richest learning environment that I can, planning
centers and activities centered on play, that open minds to new ideas in the
arts, literature, language, math, and science. I strive to learn all I can
about each child, so that I may best meet the needs of the individual whole
child: physical, spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and creative.
Partnering with my co-teacher as well as the other teachers in the preschool
class, I can best serve the children that God has blessed me with.
Personally, I am married to Gordon, am mommy to Brittney (who is married to
Chris), Carli and Brian, and I am Nana to Donovan and Jocelyn. My BA is in
Early Childhood Education. I enjoy quiet time at home with my family, reading,
music, the fall and spring months, and going to the shore. You can contact
me at
Ichoosejoy@forrunner.org -- I am always available to
you and your family.

My name is Janet Hornemann. It
was never my intention to work at ADG. In fact,
I experienced data entry work and a year
of substitute teaching with elementary age before I called Melinda and Gordon to
see if the job offer was still available.
A BA Degree in Christian Education and raising three preschoolers of my own (now
teenagers) were just a part of the learning.
I credit the mentors I’ve had in 30 years of children’s ministry and what
they showed me through their love-relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and
teaching of children.
I am still “wowed” by how amazing Creator-God has made each child so unique from
another. No two fingerprints are the
same yet each one “fearfully and wonderfully made” in the image of God (Psalms
139). Jesus loves all the children
of the world, any color, dark or light, all are precious in His sight (even us
BIG kids!).
Daily we learn about God in His special book, the Bible, sing, and pray.
Each child makes pages to take home in their own completed “Bible book”
each week. What an amazing job to
not only love the children at ADG but teach them the timeless truths of our
great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
